If you’re a sports fan, this will probably speak to you: “It is a physical experience. Things are happening in your body. Your heart races. Your palms get sweaty. You feel the outcome” (19). This idea is at the heart of one of PSC’s new books, The Secret Lives of Sports Fans: The Science of Sports Obsession by Eric Simons. As a journalist and not a scientist, Simons looks at the science behind why we feel the way we do about sports. He also pulls from recent sociology and philosophy research to expand on his rationale. Reading some of his book, I can see that as an avid sports fan himself, he gets fans and the emotions behind our favorite teams.
Other new sports titles can be found in the display, too.
