The Prairie State Library is THE place for all your research needs. Start by checking out the Prairie State College Library Website. Here you will find our OneSearch tool. By entering keywords into this tool, you will be able to search our entire catalogue. This includes all the print books, eBooks, articles, videos, and reference materials that you, as students, have access to. This is here to help you with your academic experience. What is New?

The Library’s Facebook PageThe Library has a Facebook Page. Like it to get Library news, updates, books recommendations and more!

Ask-a-Librarian You can now easily get a hold of a librarian even while you are off campus using our chat box. You are now also able to Text your questions. For times when the Library is closed, try out our FAQs page that provides answers to commonly asked questions as well as a easy to use email form. For more information read our instruction guide.

Try an Ebook Collection for Fun: Entertain yourself with the cloudLibrary™ App which features our popular fiction and non-fiction titles. You can read up on using cloudLibrary™ App using our instruction guide.

Try an Ebook Collection for Research: You can also use the Library’s academic ebook collection, from EBSCO, to help with your research and education. In this collection you can read, notate and download any of our 100,000+ books on academic topics.  You can read up on using the EBSCO Academic Ebook Collection by using our instruction guide.

The Library Chalkboard — Come check out the Library’s Blackboard discussion board located near the entrance of the library. Each week, the library posts one thought provoking question that you can respond to.

The Library has a New Catalog: The Prairie State College Library, along with over 70 local libraries, use what is called the SWAN Catalog, which has recently gotten a new look and interface. Continue reading to find out more on using this new catalog to see what we have or to order books and movies from our partner libraries.

Things to Remember…

Scanning, Faxing, and Printing is Available — Scanning documents is 5 cents per page. Faxing is $1 per page. Printing is 10 cents. In addition, printing in Color is available with the new Color Printer at the cost of 50 cents per page.

Study Rooms are Available — The library offers three study rooms that can be used for studying and preparing presentations.

Services for Faculty Members are Available — Be sure to visit our Instruction Services webpage to learn how to schedule a library instruction session for your classes, learn tips about how you can help us help your students, as well as other services you can take advantage of.

What is New?

The new One Book is “American Born Chinese” — This year PSC has selected the graphical novel “American Born Chinese” as the book for the “One Book/One Community” reading program.  Read more about the program here.

Find Resources For Your Classes With The Newly Updated “Subject Guides”: Come check out our newly updated subject guides if you have trouble finding articles, books, or websites for a research assignment in one of your classes.  Unsure how to search for articles, or how to distinguish between scholarly and popular sources? Check out the new “Using the Library” guide, which can help you understand how to use the different resources and services available through the library.

New Databases Have Been Added — The library has added fourteen new databases that can help you in in finding eBooks, research articles, multimedia items such as videos, and other resources for your course research assignments. We have also added OneSearch, and new search engine that allows you to search through all of our books, ebooks, databases, streaming music and video, and more … try it out below!

Some Overdue Fines have been Reduced — Overdue books are now assessed a fee of 25 cents per day, instead of the $1  per day fee. However, all other materials continue to have a $1 dollar per day late fee.

It’s that time of the year again — back to school! It’s time for new notebooks and folders, new pens and pencils, and resolutions for success in the new academic year. It is also the time to check out some of the new features in the Library.

“Come Weigh In” with the Student Chalkboard: Come check out the Prairie State College Library’s Blackboard Discussion, which is, well, literally on a blackboard.  One thought provoking, soul-searching question will be “posted” each week, giving you seven days to weigh-in.

Find the best resources for your class with “Subject Guides”: Come check out our subject guides if you have trouble finding articles, books, or websites for a research project in one of your classes. Click on the link above or go to the library homepage and click on “Subject Guides” to take a look.

Our eBooks selection is more popular: In addition to the academic eBooks for research and study in eBrary you can also find popular eBooks for pleasure using the 3M app on your appropriate device.

The Study Rooms are now capable of meeting your technological demands:  Is your Study Group looking for somewhere to work on presentations and papers, or place to get ready for the next big test? Well then you may want to try out the new Group Technology Lounge found in the Library!
